SITUATION

The goal was to create a speculative design and deploy it for one week with a household where the users would not necessarily know the goal of the design, to begin with. Instead, the design was supposed to reveal itself throughout the week. The project targets an issue in relation to cancer prevention. The goal is to have a person use the design for a week and reflect on the type of cancer in question or its cause. Our team designed a project that targets an issue in relation to cancer prevention.Toasting Booth is a design project that aims to bring awareness to the dangers of tanning.

APPROACH

We began by doing research and brainstorming ideas of different kinds of cancer and their potential causes. We decided to do our project on skin cancer.Toasting booth is a type of Critical design because it aims to bring awareness to the dangers of tanning. For the prototype, we modified the toaster to make it look more like a tanning bed. The goal was to create a speculative design and deploy it for a week with a household where the users would not necessarily know the goal of the design, to begin with. Instead, the design was supposed to reveal itself throughout the week. The goal is to have a person use the design for a week and reflect on the type of cancer in question or its cause.

RESULTS

We did a great job on Physical Prototype and the Video Documentary.
